ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Columbia Southern University (CSU) recently added new programs to its vast catalog. Included in the university’s latest release are concentrations and certificates in public safety health and wellness, and public safety mental health and wellness.
The curricula for these programs were designed to answer the increasing call for education and training for public safety professionals to maintain optimal health and wellness, specifically within industries where traumatic and hazardous conditions occur regularly: firefighters, law enforcement officers, occupational safety and health practitioners, emergency management professionals, and more.
“Public safety professionals face unique demands that extend well beyond the physical aspects of their work. The emotional and psychological challenges associated with high-stress environments and exposure to traumatic events underscore the need for resilience, effective stress management, and strong organizational support systems,” said Jamie Gauthier, Ph.D., academic program director for emergency management, homeland security and criminal justice. “Columbia Southern University recognizes the critical role higher education plays in preparing professionals for these realities. These new concentrations and certificates are designed to equip students with the knowledge and leadership skills needed to promote workforce well-being, strengthen organizational resilience, and foster healthier, more supportive public safety environments.”

- Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management - Public Safety Health and Wellness
- Bachelor of Science in Fire Administration - Public Safety Health and Wellness
- Bachelor of Science in Forensic Investigation - Public Safety Health and Wellness
- Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security - Public Safety Health and Wellness
- Master of Science in Fire - Public Safety Mental Health and Wellness
- Master of Science in Homeland Security - Public Safety Mental Health and Wellness
- Master of Science in OSH - Public Safety Mental Health and Wellness
- Undergraduate Certificate in Public Safety Health and Wellness
- Graduate Certificate in Public Safety Mental Health and Wellness
