Program Description

The Master of Science in Nursing Informatics program empowers nurse informatics specialists with the essential skills, knowledge, and competencies in informatics. The program is designed to help students identify, define, manage, and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in nursing practice, thereby promoting the health of individuals and communities, and improving patient safety through the utilization of information technology, nursing science, and computer science. This program aligns with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's "The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education" (2021).

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students should be able to do the following:

Demonstrate specialty practice knowledge, professional standards and values, and commitment to excellence in the role of the master’s-prepared nurse that promotes lifelong learning to benefit the advancement of the nursing profession.
Integrate scholarship into practice through critical thinking and clinical reasoning to engage in full evidence-based practice application to solve problems and facilitate change.
