Columbia Southern University Reaches Accreditation Milestone

12/10/2021

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – On Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) board of trustees granted candidacy status to Columbia Southern University.

Accreditation not only ensures quality and integrity of academic programs. It also serves to verify that an educational institution has established and placed into practice instructional, student support and other services to assist students in achieving their educational goals.

Achieving SACSCOC candidacy status is a key milestone toward achieving institutional accreditation with the commission.

“Obtaining institutional accreditation with SACSCOC has been a priority of mine and our board of trustees since I became president in 2018,” said Dr. Ken Styron, president. “After years of preparation and envisioning greater opportunities for our institution and our students, I am thrilled to announce that we are now officially on the path toward SACSCOC membership.”

Obtaining SACSCOC accreditation is a multi-step process. An institution must first become an applicant, next a candidate, and finally, a member (accredited).
