LDCS EMSO I: EMS Officer I
Columbia Southern University has partnered with the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) to offer the Leadership Development Certification Series (LDCS) EMS Officer I as a module of the IAFC's Officer Development Program (ODP).
Through a structured professional development process, ODP-LDCS EMS Officer I students will examine critical areas such as effective communication and conflict resolution; crew management and personnel development; operational readiness and incident management; and quality improvement and data-driven decision-making. Additional modules highlighting EMS finance and budget basics; regulations, compliance, and documentation; and wellness, resilience, and workforce sustainability provide a comprehensive leadership framework that prepares new officers for the administrative, operational, and interpersonal responsibilities inherent to EMS supervision.
Participants not only enhance their leadership skills, decision-making abilities, and strategic expertise, but also earn continuing education units (CEUs) to validate their commitment to professional development. Upon completion of LDCS-EMS Officer I with a passing grade of 70% or higher on the certification exam, students receive a certification through the IAFC. Students who complete this course will be eligible to receive 4.2 continuing education units or one undergraduate college credit hour that can be applied to any undergraduate degree program at CSU.
