If your resume is the conversation, then your cover letter is your handshake. A lot can be communicated by a handshake, right? The same is true of your cover letter. When applying for a job, the thing people most often fret over is the resume. Yes, it should be perfect and tailored to the job to which you are applying, but it is only a piece of your application puzzle. In order to really give a sense of who you are and the value you will add to the department or company you wish to work for, your cover letter needs to be thorough and specific.
