Certificate in Industrial Hygiene Management (CIHM) Program

Whether you are just starting out on your career path or are a seasoned professional, your Certificate in Industrial Hygiene Management designation will give you a professional edge...

Welcome to Columbia Southern University- a leader in Distance Education. The Industrial Hygiene field offers a variety of exciting and stable career opportunities

Although some occupations appear more dangerous than others, potential short term and long-term health hazards occur in every profession, from bankers to construction workers. Industrial hygiene is the science and art of anticipating, identifying, evaluating, and controlling these hazards, such as human exposure to chemical, physical, ergonomic and biological agents, and faulty work practices. In addition to safeguarding the workplace, industrial hygienists apply their skills to community issues such as hazardous waste disposal, indoor air quality, and air and noise pollution.

In the last two decades, employment opportunities in the field of industrial hygiene have exploded as a direct result of the passage of land-mark federal legislation such as the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the Superfund Amendment and Reauthorization Act (SARA) and the Clean Air Act.

CSU's Certificate Program is designed to enhance the skills and provide the knowledge graduates need to successfully develop, administer, and evaluate occupational safety & health programs. Students are trained not only to recognize occupational hazards, but also to assess their effect on health and to recommend remedial action. Students will examine workplace regulations affecting Industrial Hygienist, and will become well versed with enforcement procedures and processes in occupational law and policy development.
