Description

A comprehensive study of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14000 series on Environmental Management. Assesses the requirements to implement an Environmental Management System (EMS) and emphasizes the value of beyond compliance environmental S&H management systems in well managed organizations.

Objectives

  1. Describe the ISO 14000 standard and its requirements.
  2. Assess the 2004 changes to ISO 14000 and their impact on implementation of the standard.
  3. Explain the registration process for ISO 14000.
  4. Define an environmental management system.
  5. Recommend the documentation necessary to comply with ISO 14000.
  6. Evaluate the differences between registration and self-declaration.
  7. Recommend the planning and implementation of continual environmental improvements.
  8. Evaluate how continual improvement goes beyond regulatory requirements.
  9. Analyze the differences and similarities between ISO 9000 and ISO 14000.
  10. Assess the environmental management system of a firm using the ISO 14000 Checklist and evaluate changes needed to comply with ISO 14000.
