In-depth study of solid and hazardous wastes generated by industrial and other activities. Includes insights on the complex social, legal, political, and ethical issues associated with waste management.

Objectives

  1. Explain fundamental science and engineering principles applicable to solid and hazardous wastes.
  2. Define the key attributes of solid and hazardous wastes.
  3. Identify applicable environmental legislation and regulations.
  4. Describe requirements and good practices for storage, collection, and transportation of solid and hazardous wastes.
  5. Describe basic waste processing technologies.
  6. Describe disposal practices for these wastes.
  7. Explain the social, political, legal, and ethical issues associated with the management of solid and hazardous wastes.
