Description

Provides an integrated, strategic view of management of technology. Focusing on theory and practice, the course addresses the contemporary challenges general managers face today; e.g., globalization, time compression, and technology integration. Explores several strategic approaches for dealing with these challenges, both from a managerial and from an economic viewpoint. Concepts presented will be especially valuable for chief technology officers, directors of technology, chief information officers, and management personnel in R&D, product development, and operations.

Objectives

  1. Determine a process for developing and delivering an IT value proposition for an organization.
  2. Explain the importance of good communication and relationship between business managers and IT managers when developing an organization’s IT strategy.
  3. Discuss the importance of professionalism for IT managers and workers.
  4. Create a technology roadmap for an organization utilizing the concepts of information management, budgeting, and delivery of IT functions.
  5. Perceive how application portfolio management can help determine the best approach for IT to use when meeting an organization’s needs.
  6. Evaluate processes and practices organizations are using to investigate and manage the latest IT innovations.
  7. Examine the challenges faced by IT departments when managing information delivery for organizations.
  8. Discuss the importance of developing competent IT leadership to ensure organizations can develop and manage the IT capabilities needed to meet their business goals.
  9. Analyze the challenges IT managers face when determining methods for protecting their organization’s privacy.
  10. Explain how IT can be linked to business metrics.
