Robert G. Mayes Memorial Scholarship Details

The Robert G. Mayes Memorial Scholarship has been created in memory of the founder and President of Columbia Southern University, Robert G. Mayes. A $5,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a CSU alumnus who has completed a CSU baccalaureate program with at least a 3.8 GPA or higher and will enter one of CSU’s Master’s degree programs or a graduate of a CSU undergraduate or graduate degree program who will enter the DBA program.  Students eligible for the award will fill out an application and submit with the application and a letter of recommendation by a CSU faculty member, and a three- hundred word essay on your career goals and what the scholarship will mean to them. All material will be sent to Dr. Joe Wilkins or Dr. Joe Manjone. The recipient for the Mayes Scholarship will be chosen by a Mayes Scholarship Selection Committee composed of CSU Provost, Dr. Joe Wilkins, CSU Deans, and Executive Vice President, Dr. Joe Manjone.  The committee’s selection will be forwarded to President Robert Mayes, Jr. for his approval.

Guidelines:

  1. Eligible students must be within six hours of completing their undergraduate degree program or have graduated from CSU, but have not completed over six hours of graduate work at CSU.
  2. The award will be for an academic year and will be posted from January to December and will be applied directly to the student’s tuition.
  3. Faculty recommendations of students will be sent directly to Dr. Joe Wilkins or Dr. Joe Manjone.  All applications, scholarship essays, and recommendations must be sent prior to December 15, with the selection process beginning January 14 and to be completed by January 28.  Announcements will be made by February 1 for the March Term session. Recommendations can be sent either by mail or email.
  4. Faculty recommendations need to include the name of the student, degree program, and a brief explanation of why they believe the individual merits the scholarship.
  5. The student selected must maintain a 3.5 overall GPA, remain in good standing, and be in constant enrollment in a CSU graduate degree program to remain eligible for the scholarship. Once an individual has completed the degree program under which he/she was initially awarded the scholarship, the scholarship ceases. All remaining funds of the scholarship not used by the student will revert to CSU.
  6. Recipients of the award can reapply for the Scholarship.  No student can receive the scholarship more than twice.
  7. All questions regarding the scholarship should be directed to Dr. Joe Wilkins, Provost, or Dr. Joe Manjone, Executive Vice President.
