Joe Wilkins, Ph.D.
Governmental Affairs Liaison/Professor of History

Biography:
Joe Wilkins came to CSU in 2007 as vice president of advancement. He became provost the following year and now serves as governmental affairs liaison and professor of history. Before arriving at CSU, Joe was a history professor, and later, dean of the School of Graduate Studies at the University of West Alabama. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history and political science at Barton College, a master’s degree in history at the University of Richmond (Mass.) and a doctoral degree in history at the University of South Carolina. Joe is a member of several groups including Southern Historical Association, Alabama Historical Association, Association of Alabama Historians, French Colonial Historical Society, Military Society of America and the Association of State and Local History. Among his numerous awards include the William E. Gilbert Award for Outstanding College Teaching, University of West Alabama, 1985; Combined Honor Societies Distinguished Professor Award, 1991 and the UWA Loraine McIlwain Bell Award Trustee Professor Award, 2005.
