Admission
standards for the University of West Alabama’s
online programs are as follows:
- Students
must hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent
from an accredited college or university.

Students must complete the GRE or MAT. Students may be allowed to begin graduate work prior to submissions of a test score with the understanding that no one can take beyond one session/term without completing this requirement.

The different levels of admission status are defined
below:
Unconditional Admission
Students with a minimum of 2.75 grade-point average
(four point scale) and a score of 392 or above on the
Miller Analogies Test (MAT), or 850 or above on the
Graduate Record Exam (GRE) (Verbal and Quantitative).
Conditional Admission
Students who have grade point average of 2.74 to 2.5
with a 391 to 386 on the MAT or 849-800 on the GRE (Verbal
and Quantitative) will be admitted conditionally until
he/she demonstrates competency to perform on the graduate
level by completing all requirements for admission to
Candidacy.
Temporary Status
Students who have a grade point average of 2.5, with
a 385 or below on the MAT, or 799 or below on the GRE
(Verbal and Quantitative) will not be admitted to regular
graduate study, but may be granted temporary status.
Temporary Status students are allowed to complete 9
to 12 hours of graduate work to attempt to achieve a
grade point average of 3.0. If successful, regular admission
to the graduate program may be granted and credits earned
may apply toward a degree.

Specific Admission Requirements
M.Ed. School Counseling:
To be admitted to this program, the prospective student
must meet all the requirements for admission to the
School of Graduate Studies and hold a baccalaureate level teaching certificate.
Class A Certification Program for
School Counselors: To be admitted to this program,
the prospective student must meet all the requirements
for admission to the School of Graduate Studies and
hold the Alabama Class A Certificate. Restricted to Alabama.
MSCE Counseling/Psychology degree program: To
be admitted to this program, the prospective student
must meet all the requirements for admission to the
School of Graduate Studies.
MSCE
Guidance and Counseling degree program: To be admitted
to this program, the prospective student must meet all
the requirements for admission to the School of Graduate
Studies.
M.Ed. - Master
of Education (Certification): To be admitted
to this program, the prospective student must meet all
the requirements for admission to the School of Graduate
Studies, must hold a valid baccalaureate-level certificate,
and must concentrate in their teaching field at the
undergraduate level.
M.Ed. - Special Education:To be admitted to this program, the prospective student must meet all requirements for admission to the School of Graduate Studies and hold baccalaureate level certification in any special education teaching area.
MAT - Master
of Arts in Teaching (Certification): To be admitted
to this program, the prospective student must meet all
the requirements for admission to the School of Graduate
Studies, must hold a valid baccalaureate-level teaching certificate,
and must concentrate in their undergraduate teaching
field.
MAT - Master
of Arts in Teaching (Non-Certification): To be
admitted to this program, the prospective student must
meet all the requirements for admission to the School
of Graduate Studies. Teacher Certification is NOT necessary
for this degree.
