Behavioral Health Technician Certificate

Overview

Columbia Southern University is proud to offer an educational certificate for professionals in the health care industry who deal primarily with patients suffering from behavioral and mental health issues. This certificate program was created for those currently in the mental health field, those interested in the specialization, and others whose profession require them to work with mentally ill patients.

The Behavioral Health Technician Certificate consists of 4 courses. These courses can be taken separately from earning the BHT certificate for CEU credit.

These programs are not eligible for Federal Student Aid, military tuition assistance, VA funding or Learning Partner discounts.

    BHT 1001: Introduction to Abnormal Psychology

    This course is a survey of behavioral pathology and treatment modalities for the Mental Health Technician and Field Mental Health Practitioner as an introductory or entry level professional.

    BHT 1002: Forensic Sociology of Addictions

    This course provides a forensic analysis of addiction in American society by exploring societal norms, controls, and distortions over the course of American history. Social research will be examined to explain why people use illegal substances and the policies around the enforcement of illicit substances.

    BHT 1003: Behavioral Crisis Management

    This course provides information regarding crisis prevention, intervention, suicide prevention, and methods for managing challenging behaviors in outpatient treatment settings.

    This course provides information regarding the operation of inpatient residential treatment facilities. The topics covered range from services provided in facilities, roles of the staff members, types of admission, therapy, and methods of patient management.
