East Alabama Fire Chief to seek Master’s degree with CSU
The Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs (AAFC) and Columbia Southern University (CSU) have awarded a two-year scholarship to East Alabama Fire District Fire Chief Troy Marberry.
A CSU student since 2012, Marberry won the scholarship based on his entry in an essay contest sponsored by CSU and the AAFC, an organization that provides professional opportunities for fire chiefs.
Columbia Southern University faculty member and Center Point (Ala.) Fire Chief Donnie West has been awarded the Alabama Fire Chief of the Year for Combination Fire Departments in Alabama.
“This is a legacy award and I am very humbled,” said West, who has been a fire chief since 2006. “I have always said that it is not what we as fire chiefs do, but what the people that work around us do to support our mission and vision.”

“Ever since I was a young boy, I always wanted to work within the fire service. In fact, if you look within my high school yearbook, there is a comment that I placed where it states that I would love to play guitar like Eric Clapton, but I would probably end up working within the fire department.”
